The Youth Mindfulness SOMA Programme (Teens)

alt

This program is ideally suited to smaller groups of from 4-15 max. These sessions are aimed at 12 years plus, and are individually tailored to the young people, working with their views and values. Before the programme starts, each young person is met for a 1-2-1 session, and the group are also given a taster session. The structure of this course builds on Social connection, Openness to enjoyment, Meaning and purpose and Action, all enabled through a mindful approach.

The young people are able to reflect and discuss issues such as what ‘stresses them out’ and what ‘makes them happy’, as well as what qualities and habits they would like to build on, also we explore character strengths and they learn to identify their own, and how they enable us to accomplish and create what we want in life. The sessions are experiential with activities, games, videos and group discussion. The group dynamic is based on trust which is established very early on in the sessions to create a feeling of safety, through positive social connection.

Bespoke workshops

We can deliver workshops to whole class groups or smaller groups around the subjects of ‘kindness’ ‘gratitude’ and ‘self-love/self-kindness’

Workplace Wellbeing

A workplace wellbeing session can take place in your place of work (in the Bristol/Bath area) or via zoom. These sessions are designed with the wellbeing of your team in mind. Whether you are looking for just mindfulness, just face yoga or a combination of the two, we can work with your requirements. Sessions can be as little as 15 minutes up to an hour.

Benefits of mindfulness and face yoga for your staff include...

  • Calm and focus from mindfulness practices
  • Improved productivity - research shows that mindfulness at work can improve your focus, attention, and ability to work under stress
  • Relaxation and improved posture
  • Working on releasing tension held in the neck & shoulders (great for those who work at a desk)
  • Releasing tension in the face, particularly areas such as the jaw and between the eyebrows
  • Eye exercises to help relax and strengthen (helpful if screens are used a lot in the work)
  • Team bonding – these sessions can also be a lot of fun as we pull various faces, so can be a great fun alternative to other team sessions!

“[I] really loved the Face Yoga with Ellie, every session was different and each had a new and different feel that uplifted / refreshed / rejuvenated – all being good feel good factors."

"A really great way to start the day and just before the weekly team meeting- to enable approaching this with a positive mindset. The sessions fit in well to the working day – as don’t take up too much time, and works really well in virtual delivery (as you can turn your video off and pull as many faces as you like!)" - South Gloucestershire Council

“Face Yoga classes with Ellie are totally wonderful. It is a full hour of ‘me’ time with no yoga mat needed – just a comfortable chair and some lovely smelling face oil. Ellie gently talks us through each exercise and I literally feel all of the tension in my face and neck fall away. Best of all – I always sleep brilliantly well after a face yoga session.”

"I had no idea facial yoga existed and didn’t know what to expect but after my first session I became completely hooked. Ellie is fabulous, really knowledgeable and in each session I have learnt something as well as experienced a positive difference to my overall well-being, not just my face. I can highly recommend giving it a go, it is such a lovely experience."

Aesthetic benefits of face yoga

Do you look in the mirror and instantly start focussing on the wrinkles, the under eye bags and the sagging skin?

It’s very natural, especially as we age, to start noticing the signs of aging – and where is most visible, but on the face!

Face yoga is a natural holistic way of practicing self-care, and targets the 57 muscles of the face and neck to help prevent the signs of aging, and release stress and tension. Face yoga uses a combination of face exercises, face massage, acupressure, relaxation and wellbeing techniques. It has been scientifically proven to work with long lasting effects, and has a relaxing effect also on calming the mind.

alt

Wellness benefits of face yoga

There are also many wellness benefits to practicing face yoga. The practice also includes releasing tension from the neck and shoulders which are areas we tend to hold stress throughout the day. It releases stress and tension held in the face where people can also

experience pain, such as in the jaw. Anyone who has issues with grinding their teeth at night or clenching their jaw would benefit from face yoga exercises.

The eye exercises help to tone the muscles around the eye and all the way back to the optic nerves, therefore helping the eyes to become stronger – with all the screen time we have these days, the eye exercises are a perfect resbite for staring for long hours in the same spot.

Practicing face yoga activates the parasympathetic nervous system which in turn helps to calm the mind.

Regular practice can help to increase confidence and self-esteem, as when we start to feel better about the way we look, we start to outwardly project more confidence and feel better in general.

Continued practice can also help with issues such as sinus problems, stress, anxiety, headaches, insomnia and migraines.

The continued practice of face yoga can help us to become more mindful of our posture, and promote increased confidence as we start to become aware of the positive changes we see. We begin to accept ourselves more fully, wrinkles and all!

alt

Here are some of the benefits you can expect to see from regular face yoga practice. Just 10-20 minutes of practice a day can start to show noticeable changes.

  • Reduced lines and wrinkles
  • Firmer skin
  • Sculpted/toned face
  • Improved skin tone
  • Reduced puffiness
  • Brighter healthier looking skin
  • Boosts collagen production
  • Clearer skin tone
  • Reduces signs of aging
  • Helps with conditions such as sinus problems, bruxism, migraines and insomnia
  • Boosts overall well-being
  • Promotes relaxation
  • Stress release
  • Strengthens eye function
  • Improves posture and facial habits (frowning)

What is needed to practice?

Nothing! Just your hands!

Face yoga is a completely free and easy way of achieving great results and looking and feeling your best. You may want to use some facial oil when practicing the facial massages as this helps your fingers to glide on the skin.

Best of all, face yoga is good fun. You will learn many different techniques that include pulling lots of funny faces, so it is ok to have fun and laugh at yourself!
